The Elm Tree is a 17th century country pub, located at the heart of the beautiful coastal village of Langton Herring, a short walk from Chesil Beach and the Fleet, on the Jurassic Coast.
It is a place of character and history; once upon a time being frequented by smugglers and “wreckers”, it is said to be haunted. During the war, Barnes Wallis stayed there when the bouncing bomb was being tested on the Fleet; and it was even the secret rendezvous for Russian spies during the Cold War!
Today, there’s a wonderfully inviting local atmosphere, with a warm welcome, cosy fireplaces and our Elm bar, a “Snug” where you can relax and chill, or read the paper by the open fire, and outside we have a lovely garden, offering al-fresco drinking and dining during the summer months and beyond. As a free house, there’s something for everyone – offering traditional pub classics and a broad range of real ales and ciders, as well wines and spirits and a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks too.
This is a traditional English pub that offers a classic dining experience for everyone with an emphasis on local.
Visit by car and we have a large car park, cycle and we have spaces for bikes, plenty of seats to rest if walking the area and of course we welcome dogs too!
There’s no better place to relax and enjoy some quality time with friends and family than at the Elm Tree. Whether it be sitting in the garden on a Summer’s day, cosying up with a Dorset Cheese platter or by the roaring log fire in the winter with a homemade pie, or simply popping by for a swift half or a coffee and cake the Elm Tree has something for everyone.
Langton Herring nestled behind the world famous Chesil Bank, forming part of the World Heritage Site, the pub is an excellent starting point for many walks and rides taking in the Dorset National Landscape with dramatic coastline to the undulating hills, stunning valleys and beautiful villages of West Dorset.
